Deck Cost in Airdrie (2026): Prices, Permits and Builders

A new deck in Airdrie typically costs $8,000 to $16,000 for a standard 200 sq. ft. pressure-treated build and $14,000 to $22,000 in composite, installed. Below are the ranges by size and material, exactly when the City of Airdrie requires a deck permit and what the application needs, and what to check before you hire a builder. We're based in Airdrie, in Kings Heights.

How much does a deck cost in Airdrie?

Size, material and height drive most of the price. Labour is usually 40% to 60% of the total, and larger decks cost less per square foot because setup is spread over more area.

Totals verified against HomeStars' 2026 deck construction cost guide, October 2026. These are Canada-wide ranges, not Airdrie-only figures, and the per-square-foot column is our arithmetic on the totals. Material ranges cross-checked with Windsor Plywood's deck cost guide.

Do you need a deck permit in Airdrie?

The City of Airdrie treats any platform more than 600 mm (2 ft) above finished grade at any point as a deck, and it needs a building permit whether it's covered or not. Anything lower counts as a patio. You also need a permit to:

  • Change the size or structural members (joists, beams, posts or piles) of an existing deck.
  • Add a roof or enclosure over a deck or patio, or add or relocate stairs.
  • Build new stairs with more than three risers.

A permit usually isn't needed for an uncovered deck under 600 mm at every point, or for a same-for-same rebuild of a permitted deck that keeps the size, stair location and structural members unchanged. Work can't start until the permit is approved, and utility lines must be located before digging.

Verified against airdrie.ca's decks, porches and landings page, October 2026.

What the City of Airdrie asks for in a deck permit

  • Real Property Report or site plan showing the deck, stairs and distances to property lines and buildings. The deck must meet setbacks or get a variance.
  • Plan and side-elevation drawings at no less than 1:100: deck size, joist type and spacing, beams, posts, ledger, decking (with a CCMC listing for composite), stairs and railing height and spacing.
  • Foundation details: concrete pile size and depth, or screw piles with site-specific engineering and a CCMC listing.
  • Stair handrails: required for more than three steps, mounted 865 mm to 1,070 mm above the nosing (900 mm to 1,070 mm where the handrail also acts as a guard).

  • Proof of WCB coverage and liability insurance for the crew on your property.
  • A realistic start date and where you sit in their spring schedule before you pay a deposit.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a deck cost in Airdrie?

A standard 200 sq. ft. pressure-treated deck typically runs $8,000 to $16,000 installed, and the same size in composite runs $14,000 to $22,000. Stairs, railings, height and site access move the final number.

Do I need a permit for a deck in Airdrie?

Yes, if any point of the deck surface is more than 600 mm (2 ft) above finished grade, covered or uncovered. Adding a roof, changing the size or structural members of an existing deck, or adding stairs with more than three risers also needs a permit.

When is a deck permit not needed in Airdrie?

An uncovered deck under 600 mm above grade at every point usually doesn't need one, and neither does a same-for-same rebuild of a permitted deck that keeps the size, stair location and structural members unchanged.

What goes into an Airdrie deck permit application?

A Real Property Report or site plan showing the deck and its distances to property lines, plus plan and side-elevation drawings at no less than 1:100 showing joists, beams, posts, foundation, stairs and railing heights. Screw piles need site-specific engineering and a CCMC listing.

Does my deck builder need an Airdrie business licence?

Yes. The City says contractors must hold a City of Airdrie business licence, and property owners are responsible for checking it before work begins. Arch & Bow holds Airdrie business licence LC2602353.

When should I book a deck builder in Airdrie?

Book over the winter. Footings can't be poured in frozen ground, so most builds wait for spring, and builders fill up from late May. Designing and permitting in February puts you near the front of the spring line.

What do I get before Arch & Bow builds?

A free on-site consultation, a written quote, and three design options shown as design renders, so you choose the deck before anything is cut. Where a City permit applies, we prepare the drawings, submit them and book the inspection.
