Deck Railings in Airdrie, Alberta
Arch & Bow builds aluminum and glass deck railings for homeowners in Airdrie, sized to the City's own published guard and handrail figures rather than assuming Calgary's numbers carry over unchanged.

Mostly the same numbers, but Airdrie publishes them independently on the City's own site rather than referring back to Calgary's bulletin, and one rule — when horizontal members are allowed — is stated more specifically here.
Guard height is 900mm (36") for a deck 0.6m to 1.8m above grade, and 1072mm (42") above that. A handrail is required once a stair has more than three steps, mounted between 865mm and 1070mm from the stair nosing — or 900mm to 1070mm if that same rail is also doing the job of the guard. Baluster and guard openings can't exceed 100mm (4"), and horizontal rail members are only permitted where the deck sits under 4.2m above grade — above that height, the design has to avoid a climbable horizontal pattern, the same threshold our stair & railing code guide covers for Calgary.
